10 Ways to Have a Happy Relationship

Relationships can be the best of dreams, or like a bad nightmare. No matter how much you love another, a relationship takes work from both partners. Simply by following the ten guidelines below will make a dramatic difference in your relationship, even if you are the only one making the effort. Your partner will notice the change in you, and will most likely become more involved in the relationship. When we first fall in love with someone, it is the best feeling in the world.  We would give anything to hold on to that feeling forever. Reality is that the ‘in love’ phase lasts somewhere between 3 months to 3 years on average. If unconditional love hasn’t set in, the relationship is doomed. However, being in love can last forever. Here are 10 ways to keep your partner happy, and to keep your relationship alive:
1.  Always Be Happy to See Them. Think of how a dog reacts every time they see you. Excited! Happy! They give us a nice warm welcome, every time. They don’t have attitudes or start complaining about their day. That is why humans love dogs so much. They love us and bring us happiness. Give the same to your partner - love and happiness, every day.
2.  Kiss For at Least 3 Seconds. Giving the same pecks to your partner like you would give to your grandmother is not good enough! Kiss your lover for at least 3 seconds every time, and kiss frequently when you are together. It keeps the intimacy alive.
3.  Be Spontaneously Romantic. Leave a note on the bathroom mirror. Bring them a surprise gift. Give them a card to say I love you for no reason. There are many ways to show the one you love how much you care.
4.  Spend Time Together. Take walks. Watch movies. Go to a game – whatever. The important thing is that you are together. Even if it is an activity you are not interested in – would it kill you to do something just for someone else? There is nothing more important than quality time with the ones you love.
5.  Fight Fair. When in an argument, fight fairly. Do not call your partner names or attack their character. It is very difficult to take back hurtful words after the fact. Better to think before you speak, or go somewhere to cool for off until you can think rationally again.
6.  Do Things For Them – Happily. Wash their car. Run an errand. Like the saying goes, “It’s the little things that count”. Do nice things for them, happily without ever complaining about it.
7.  Cook Them Their Favorite Meal. We all have to eat! Even if you are not a cook, trying to make a nice meal for your partner is romantic in any language.
8.  Be Intimate Often. Every relationship is different, so the pressure of how much and how often isn’t the important thing. What’s important is that both people in the relationship are sexually satisfied. Be spontaneous. Catch each other when the moment is right. Make time for intimacy – it is the glue that holds things together.
9.  Pick Your Battles. Ask yourself, does it really matter? What is it that you are arguing about anyway? In the whole scheme of things, is it worth the frustration? Learn to let things go.
10.            Be and Let Be. Not everyone will fold towels the same way you do. They may load dishwashers incorrectly. They will have a different way of looking at the world. That is what makes them so great. So leave them alone, and let them be who they are. Don’t nag. Ever. No one, not even animals, likes someone who nags.

We all have many things going on in our lives every day. Do not lose sight of what’s important. Always nurture your relationships, and take care of the ones you love.
